Congratulations on your engagement!
We are thrilled that you are considering having your marriage ceremony at Holy Trinity!

This is the information you need to know to plan ahead.

Getting Married in an Anglican Church

The first thing to do is call our office and ask to meet with the priest. After a meet and greet you will have a better sense of the marriage ceremony, get a tour of the church, and discover a date that works for you and the priest. Please note that one of you needs to be baptized in the Christian faith, for the priest to be able to officiate your wedding ceremony in the church.

Marriage Preparation

The priest is a trained facilitator with Prepare/Enrich and would love to offer you 4 sessions for a fee. See: https://www.prepare-enrich.com/    However, you can choose to meet with someone else who can assist you in this way. It is highly recommended that you prepare for your marriage with a counselor.

The Marriage Ceremony

There are two services to choose from in the Anglican Church of Canada; “The Form of Solemization of Matrimony” found in the Book of Common Prayer and “The Celebration and Blessing of a Marriage” found in the Book of Alternative Services. The priest will help you create a wedding ceremony that is personal and meaningful and is open to considering your choice for readings and music selections.  We have a talented organist who can play for your ceremony, but you may acquire your own musician(s) if you like.

Rehearsal

It is important to rehearse the ceremony a day or two before the actual day and to have everyone present who will have an active role in the ceremony, particularly your wedding party (two witnesses) and relatives.

Decorations and Flowers

Arrangements can be made with the parish coordinator to book a time to come and decorate the church for your ceremony.

Marriage License

At some time in the three months prior to your wedding date, you will need to buy a marriage licence. Only one member of the couple is required to apply for a marriage licence, but he or she must apply in person, and show primary identification for both parties. For a licenser near you see: https://connect.health.gov.bc.ca/marriage-offices?search=north+saanich
